Paratai Drive — Dekton Liquid Ember Kitchen and Dining Project
Paratai Drive: Dekton Architectural Kitchen & Bespoke Dining Installation
Where Precision Fabrication Meets Auckland's Premier Address
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Location: Paratai Drive, Orakei – Auckland's most exclusive waterfront estate
Scope: Architectural kitchen island + integrated dining table with Dekton inset
Collaborator: Kitchens By Design
Materials: Dekton Liquid Ember
Bespoke Matai Dining Table with Dekton Integration
We engineered a one-of-kind River Wood Matai dining table with a seamlessly inset Dekton Liquid Ember surface—combining the organic warmth of native timber with the indestructible performance of ultra-compact porcelain.
Technical Highlights:
Flush integration of 12mm Dekton into solid timber with zero tolerance margin
Sculptural V-leg geometry requiring precise weight distribution calculation
Concealed LED channel routed for integrated architectural lighting
Thermal expansion compatibility engineered between timber and porcelain substrates
The result: a dining centrepiece that's as practical as it is sculptural—immune to wine spills, heat damage, and daily wear while retaining the soul of New Zealand craftsmanship.
Monolithic Kitchen Island with 80mm Mitred Dekton
The kitchen island commands attention through proportion, material honesty, and fabrication precision.
Design Execution:
80mm mitred waterfall edges creating a bold, continuous material statement
Copper-clad perimeter front custom fabricated to frame the island mass
Full-height mitred ends for 360° visual impact
Invisible seam engineering across a 3+ metre island span
Structural substrate design to support cantilevered overhangs and ultra-thin visual mass
This isn't decorative—it's structural art. Every mitre was cut, polished, and bonded in our Auckland workshop to exacting tolerances, then installed with millimetre-perfect alignment on-site.
GRANITE WORKSHOP TECHNICAL PARTNER, NOT JUST FABRICATOR
For architectural projects of this complexity, we don't just "cut and install." We collaborate early.
We worked directly with Kitchens By Design throughout design development—ensuring every Dekton element could be fabricated to spec, installed without compromise, and perform flawlessly for decades.
WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS
For Architects & Designers:
This is what's possible when fabrication expertise enters the conversation early. Complex details like 80mm mitres, flush timber insets, and structural cantilevers require engineering—not guesswork. We bring that to the table before the drawings are finalised.
For Builders & Cabinet Makers:
Collaborating with a fabricator who understands tolerances, installation sequencing, and substrate requirements means fewer site issues, tighter programming, and a finish that reflects your craftsmanship.
For Discerning Homeowners:
You're investing in a kitchen that will outlast trends, withstand daily wear and tear, and age with grace. Dekton doesn't patina, chip, stain, or fade. And when it's fabricated and installed to this standard, it becomes a permanent architectural feature—not just a benchtop.
